Abstract:

As a VB6 developer you may have been asking yourself "What do I need to know to get ready for VB.NET?" Because the .NET Framework represents such a large change in architecture and VB.NET represents such a large change in language it is hard to know where to start. This goal of this session is to point out the major areas you need to focus on, discover what's new, and identify what issues you may be faced with.

During this session we will explore as many of the following topics as time allows:

  • The .NET Framework
  • Assemblies
  • Object-Oriented Programming and COM
  • Various Language Changes Including Error Handling
  • The Upgrade Wizard
  • Accessing Data with ADO.NET
  • Web Services and ASP.NET

This page last updated March 24, 2002

In this session I created a few sample applications that show how to do basic data access using ADO.NET, how to create and use a web service, and how to use the wizard to upgrade a VB6 project to VB.NET

The sample code contained in the download has been tested with the RTM version of Visual Studio.NET.
